How Police Captured Colorado’s Mailman Killer.
“Colorado’s Mailman Killer” refers to the brutal, cold-blooded murder of 33-year-old postal carrier Jason Schaefer, who was ambushed and shot to death in broad daylight on October 13, 2021, in Longmont, Colorado.
What initially appeared to be a random attack was actually a highly calculated ambush fueled by an intense, toxic custody battle.
Schaefer’s ex-girlfriend, Devan Schreiner (27), and her then-boyfriend, Andrew “AJ” Ritchie (34). Schreiner and Schaefer had both previously worked for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS).
Schreiner and Schaefer were locked in a bitter custody dispute over their young son. Schreiner was also reportedly furious that Schaefer had recently started dating her younger sister.
On the morning of the murder, Ritchie acted as a lookout, tracking Schaefer’s postal route. Schreiner, disguised in a hoodie and mask, approached Schaefer while he was delivering mail to a neighborhood box and shot him five times at close range before calmly jogging away.
