Robert Bush,a funeral director in Hull, was jailed after police discovered 35 improperly stored bodies and over 100 sets of ashes.
The investigation, triggered by a tip-off, revealed that funds were misappropriated for personal use instead of funeral services.
Following the case, the UK government is introducing mandatory regulation to the funeral sector to prevent future occurrences.
The National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) revoked the membership of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors and backed mandatory licensing following the discovery of 35 bodies at its branches. Robert Bush was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2025 after pleading guilty to 67 charges, including fraud and preventing lawful burials.
