jose antonio El shakal de trompeta was known for his violent criminal activities, El chakal was a figure whose   reputation preceded him

he was involved in  numerous shigh- profile crimes and was one of the many violent offenders housed at la sabaneta.

the prison also housed numerous local criminals including  drug traffickers armed robbers and individuals involved in organized crimes.

many of these inmates had significant influence within the prison and contributed to unrest and violence that marked las  sabaneta’s history.

also not only las sabaneta but all venezuelan prisons had a problem holding unsentenced inmates with the ones who went through  trial .

as well as first time offenders and petty thieves with veteran hardcore criminals in the same  blocks that had many consequences like increased violence, the mixing of unproven sentenced inmates   contributed to heightened tensions and violence within la sabaneta.

several figures were responsible for the operation and oversight of las  sabaneta prison over the years governement particularlythe ministry of prison was responsible foroveseeing the prisons however their efforts were often inadequate  leading to deterioration of condition of.

varrios wardesn and administrative staff were in charge of daily  operation at la sabaneta their rolesincluded managing inmate behavior handling security  and oveseeing the prison’s day -to -day   functions

many of these officials were criticized for their  inability to control the prison’s problems effectively

local police and security personal were involved in managing the  prison their role was crucial maintaining  order  but hey too faced challenges.

not due to the prison’s severe overcrowding and the  frequent violence among inmates but  alot of them took bribes and simply didn’t care.the  issue of overcrowding…and gangs.

one of the most pressingissues at las sabaneta was the severe overcrowding the  la sabaneta  wasbuilt to hold about 700 inmates but it often housed as many as  3,700 prisoners at its peak.which is more than five times more than the projected amount.

even  from the beginning it faced challenges with too many  inmates  that grew increasingly worse  as decades and mismanagement progressed.despite  its initial design the sabaneta quicly became overcrowded.by the 1990s the number of inmates surged well beyond its intended capacity and the record number  was reached in 2013.

the prans and their gangs often controlled various aspects of prison life including the distribution of food, acessto basic services and even the security.  of the  facility.

the power of the prans  created a parallel system of  authority within la sabaneta this controll contributed to the prison’s chaotic environment as conflicts between different gangs.

and betweeen inmates and guards were common .

the riot  dew  significant  attention due  to the scale of the destruction and the severity  of the violence. the fire during 1994 riot was one of the most destructive aspects of the event.

as the riot unfolded fires broke out in several parts of the prison the fire wee fueled bt the combustible materials in the prison including  bedding furniture and paper.

the blaze  spread  rapidly through the overcrowded and poorly maintained  buildings  the fire had devastating  consequences flames engulfed cell, blocks, administrative areas and  other parts of the facility

the intense heat and smoke….made it  extrmley difficult for  emergency responders to control the situation it also contributed to the already chaotic condition within the prisonermaking it even harder to manage the riot.many inmates wer trapped in their cells or in areas where the fire had spread

the smoke and heat cause numerous injuries and fatalitites reports indicate that at least a hundred people died  asa result of the fire including inmates and guards.

the respons to the riot and fire was complicated by  the scale of the desttruction and the ongoing  violence.

it took  several days  for the  authorities to fully regain control of the prison and extinguish the flames.

the  venezuelan government deployed additional security forces to manage the situation and begin the process of restoring order.

in the years  following the riot efforts were made to adress some of  the problems  at  la sabaneta but  these efforts were often criticized as  insufficient.

the prison continued to struggle with overcrowding and violence

other riots and closure of la  sabaneta

beyond the major riot and fire of 1994 the  prison haasexperienced numerous smaller riots and indicenta of violence, reflecting  the ongoing issues within its wall these distrubances were also linked to gang violence and systemic failures in prsion management.

la sabaneta was not only marked by large scale  riots but also by frequent smaller  outbreaks of  violence.

these smaller ones often resulted from tensions between different inmates gangs.

the prison’s severe conditions  created an environment where conflicts could easily escalatethe lack of sufficient security personnel andbribing the management contributed to the frequencey and  intensity of these riot.inmates often clashed with each other .

and the violence extended to confrontations with prisons  staff.

in 2012 the security  situation at la sabeneta was particularly dire as few  as eight guards wee onduty at any given time with the population of over 3,000 which would  make the ratio of guards to inmates

1 to  over 600 . this ratio made it difficult to maintain order and control within  the prison.

to supplement the limited security staff 32 venzenuelanational guard officers were assigned to patrol the  prison’exterior, however their presence was not always enough to prevent violence inside the facility the lack of effective e security contributed to the prevalence of gang violance
