A picture released by TRT World on October 2 shows a Turkish police forensic expert inspecting a tandoori oven as part of investigation into Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s killing at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

New details of the writer’s murder by a Saudi assassination team were reported in a documentary by Al Jazeera Arabic that aired on Sunday night.

Turkish authorities monitored the burning of the outdoor furnace as bags believed to be carrying Khashoggi’s body parts were transferred to the Saudi consul’s house after he was killed inside the consulate a few hundred meters away.

A worker who constructed the furnace said it was built according to specifications from the Saudi consul. It had to be deep and withstand temperatures above 1,000 degrees Celsius – hot enough to melt metal.

Bags of meat were also cooked in the oven after the killing in order to cover up the cremation of the Saudi writer’s body, authorities reported.

Turkish investigators also found traces of Khashoggi’s blood on the walls of the Saudi consul’s office after removing paint that the assassination team applied after killing the Washington Post columnist on October 2, 2018.

The documentary was based on interviews with security officials, politicians, and some of Khashoggi’s Turkish friends.

Did the Saudi state plan the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi? Was Khashoggi so much of a threat to the Saudi regime that it was prepared to commit a terrible crime to get rid of him? This documentary reconstructs Jamal Khashoggi’s personal plans and movements in his final days.

It also examines records, leaks and reports related to his assassination, as well as motivations that may have led Saudi Arabia to commit such a shocking crime.

The torys’s key feature is exclusive testimony from Khashoggi’s close circle, including from his fiancée Hatice Cengiz. She tells of her emotional struggle in dealing with his death; hoping against hope he was still alive despite accounts of how he was killed; the struggle to discover his fate; and the pain of not knowing where his body is.

The documentary also uncovers how the Saudi government handed the incident, including the attempts it made to cover up the story. In London, Washington, Istanbul and Montreal, the film visits and speaks with Khashoggi’s friends, security experts, analysts and activists. The events surrounding Khashoggi’s killing and the assassination itself are reconstructed in reenactments and with aerial photographs, graphics and animations, including archive footage.

In the words of one official close to the case, UN Special Rapporteur Agnès Callamard: “There is credible evidence that requires further investigation into the involvement of senior Saudi officials in the crime, including the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman himself.”

as investigatior try  to find out what happened to jamal kashoggi saudi arabia confirms that the journalist jamal khashoggi is dead

On October 1 st , 2018 nothing seemed out of the ordinart in belgrad forsesst , north of istanbul.

it was amonday -the start of the work week – and thefall weater drew few visitors.

just before sunset  CCTV  cameras  picked  up a car belonging to the saudi consulante in istanbul.  as it past through  a security  gate.

it would later emerge in reports   Turkish daily sabah that it was carrying the consulate’s  military attache. ahmed abdullah al-muzaini on what turkish intelligence called a” surveillance mission”

according to sabha al – muzaini had returned e from said  arabia earler that day earlier that  day with a plan to liquidate saudi journalist jamal khashoggi.

on June 21 , 2017,prince mohammed bin salman was apointed crown prince of saudi arabia.

the journalist  jamal khashohhi had  long been close to the ryoal family.but with the rise of mohammed bin salman ,he had fallen out of favor.

banned from writing and tweeting he faced  increasing repressinon,  and began to fear for his life. he flad the kindom that same months.

and though he remained supportive of the saudi mornachy and the crown prince’s 2023  reform agenda,  become a vocal critic of saudi arepresesion and policies.

from his  self -imposed ecile  in the united states.

the pressure increased    in 2014  or 2015, he was banned from writing .ministry of information decided to publish the letter banning  from writting.

in early  1980s, jama khashoggi  received a buisness  degree from indiana state university. he then began  working as a journalist

laters serving as media advisor to ambassador prince Tuki -Faisal in washington.

while he was in instabull to arrange  their marriage one of his son’s came to vistit him. he wanted to live in instabul to be near to his family.

kahsoggi had four children. wtih his first wife. his second marriage  also ended in divorce.

in may 2010  he marrided dr, alaa  nassif.

serveral months after khashoggi left  saudi arabia that mariage also endend.rumors  that the journalist had been put under official pessure. to agreed to the divorse.

he wasn’t very  happy . he was worried. he one time told a friend, his two sons complain to him that they are held hostage because of him.

they  couldn’ travel .he said they were both bankers and their work required them to travel and they could not leave the kingdom. their passports were confiscated , and they were blaming him. and that  really caused lots  of guilt.

he told his friend he  felt guilty thathe is causing their stredd and suffering.

In August ,2017, khashoggi tweeted for the first time from exile in the united states.

i returned to writing and tweeting , grateful to his highness the minister of  information for his kind efforst gratitud and  loyalty to theroyal crown prince.

no free pen is broken and no tweeter is silenced under his reign.

-Jamal

coming from a man in self- imoposed exile, the tweet seemed confusing  and raised questions about his relationship with his native country.

back in 2016  the saudi authorities had banned khashoggi from writing and tweeting.

he was informed by saudi al- Qahtani  an advisor to ther crown prince in a telephone call

which khashoggi later described in a television interview.

” i realized how degrading it would be if i agreed to such a thing. that an offficial could prevent me from writing or tweeting , over the phone.”

-jamal

in september 2017, khasoggi  started writing  for the washington post .

his column extended his readership and  infuence beyond the middle East.

for the saudis ,this was the  scariest thing they  guy  writes  for a paper that’s read all over the world. that are  by decision makers in the US.

the image that mohammed bin salman painted  of himself in the  west. in america , london and paris with  hundreds of millions of dollars spent on publick relations. was destroyed by  khashoggi’s one, singel article  published in the washington post.

” as we speak today , there are saudi intellectuals and journalists jailed, now  nobody will dare to speak and criticize the reform  they like.”

-jamal

Saudi intelligence was monitoring  khashoggi’s writing and movement and  were breifing the crown prince and heir to the throne.

” every thing  that write , i write as an honest advisor .”

-Jamal.

the saudis tried to tempt  the journalist to return, a source close to khashoggi said that the crown prince’s advisor, saud . al.-Qahtani, contacted him twice by phone.

he said that mohammed bin salman trusted khashoggi implicitly abd that the dirrs if ther royal court would  be ope n for him whenever he chose to return.

the same  source said thatr the saudi government maintained communication with khashoggi and made him several offers.

including managing a saudi funded media network, if he were return.

Jamal knows the saudi regime very well. he has been there.

he has been serving  in the embassy  in london ,the embassy in washington.was  the editor of  al watan newspaper.his knowledge of the regim added  credibilitiy to his professional as a journalist when  he spoke out.

khashoggi continued his crtism of the crown  prince in the washington post.

jamal spoke to a friend two days before his murder, that he is working with  other friends to establish a foundation for democracy in the Arab world.

promoting the culture of democracy amongst they youth people and also creating some form of societal reconciliation.

khashoggi’s efforts included support fro the project ” electronic bees”

with canadian based saudi  activist omar abdulazeez, who was seeking to counter the saudi government’s on some harassment  of critics of ther regime

during may and july 2018, many activists noticed that  there was an organized attempt to attack them online ,specically on social media.

khashoggi was a key target,so omar , studdied how those electronic attacks worked.omar  wanted to put together a  project that aimed to stop them.

omar resented the idea to jamal  khashoggi  and he liked it as did other people like  tarek al mutairy from kuwait.they  decided to establish a team that would counter those attacks.khashoggi supported us and contributed  5000 out of his own pocket to help fund the project.

in instabull  DW (DW is a germany public service- company)  spoked with a political cientist about another major project that khashoggi launched from the turkish city via a number of media platforms.DW contacted several  of khashoggi’s assistants

But they were reluctant to talk in detail ,because they didn’t want to jeopardize the future of their  project.

meanwhile , back int the saudi capital of Riyadh a small cell  was formed to decide what to do about khashoggi .they weighed up different options.

as new information became available, they formulated a course of action.they decided ti silence khashoggi ,for good.

in september , jamal khashoggi  left the united states for what would be the lst  time. he boarded  turkish airlines fligtht TK8 from washington .arriving at istanbul’s Airport  just before sunset on september 10th. september ,2018.he planned to stay until the 17th of october to finalize his wedding arrangements.

The Turkish scholar  Hatice cengiz met jamal khashoggi when she inverviewed him at a conference in instabul in may 2018 . this was the first of  several meetings.that summer ,jamal  khashoggi  proposed  – ans she accepted.

jamal was full of hope because  he is about to get married.he wanted to establish a new life, the flat he bought, the furniture   that he is going to put in the flat. and the fact that he is go t the  consulante to get some documents.

from istanbul , khashoggi  went to london for several days. returning to instanbul at 4:07 am  on frideay , the 28th of september.

at  9: 24 that morning.the couple  went to the municipal office in the fatih district. to complete the formalities for their marriage. they weere  told they needed a certifacate confirming that they both were single. without that they wouldn’t be able to marry.and he would have to go to the saudi consulate to get that certificatete

jamal khashoggi and Hatice Cengiz took a taxi to the saudi consulant.

he left his phone with Hatice before going in .  she wasn’t  allowed to go in only people who had to obtain paperwork were mermitted to enter.

he stayed inside for about an hour.Hatice was relieved  they were both relieved   ehen he came out of the consulate. e said that they had treared him  well.

during his 90-minute visit at the consulate, khashogi was told hid documents would be ready within the next few days.

that same evening he returned to london,he had spent less than a day in istanbul.

on the 29th of  september , khashoggi  gave a talk at a symposium on the future of peace 25 years after the Oslo Accords.

he posted two  tweets about the even.

and then what  would be his last tweet.

“young prince nohammed bin salman, the saudi arab crown prince reached  a deal with kushner and they even went as far as agreeing….

-jamal.

” i was one of the last  people  to meet him before he disappearead, he was here with  me in this office.we spent lunch together and then  he went to the airport. i  folllowed him the following day to istanbul, because  he  was supposed to appear on my TV show.

but  by the  time i arrived in istanbul he was gone . and i can tell that  when we met here jamal seemed quite comfortable  and excited about ther prosepects of marriage.we discussed a project he had in mind and that is to set up a website to publish translations of reports and artciles and analyses on the economic situation  of saudi arabia and the region”

-Azzam tamimi.

In london , khashoggi called the saudi  consulate in instanbul.they told him that his papers were ready , and he  should ccome  on tuesday ,  october 2, at 1:30 pm   to collect them.kahshoggi left london to return to istanbul, on what would be  his final journey

on this visit kashoggi  did not stay  in an istanbul hotel. but ain a near apartment  he had bought for himself and Hatice to live after the wedding.

Hatice had been busy moving furniture and supplies to the apartment.only a few items remained, which khashoggi planned to buy after his retrun from the consulate.

the couple had breakfast at a resturant in the residential complex. they had a lot to talk about -espceially their upcoming wedding.

”  we discussed the weeding date, and al lthe details. how  to organize it and who to invite.i asked  him i f someone  would go with him to  the consulate, and he said he would go along  or with a friend.

so i told him   i would go  with him , and skip my university seminar.then he called the consulate to confirm his appointment.they said they would call him back.”

-Hatice

half an hour later they called and gave him an appointment at 1 ,pm. then  took a  taxi and went to the consulate.

the consulate was located almost 15  km from the apartment

meanwhile – in the  early hours of that same morning. the planes  carrying the team of assasssins had arrived in istanbul. three members of mohammed bin salman’s special protection Unit came on a commercial flight from Cairo.

Two private jets coming from Riyad landed  an hour apart on a private runway the first plan , tail registration HZ-SK1  landed   at 3:30 a.m. carrying the head of the assassination team , maher al mutrib.and  eight other men, including two of the key players .

the teams checked into two hotels near the saudi consulate. surveillance cameras in  both hotels showed the men lieaving at 9:40 and 10.:15 a.m.

surveillance cameras at the consulate momitored their arrival.

” turkish authorities , let’s say , leaked all the recordings  that two planes came from saudi arabia to the ataturk international airport. and 15 men checked in a hotel in istanbul and before khashoggi arrived to the consulate, they entered to the consulate with a car . with a tinted window that you cannot see inside. “

-Yusuf Alabarda

“the fact that that team arrived in turkey ,the circumstances of what they actually did the timings concerned and also the composition of those people.

in terms of their forensic expertise. their ranking; one at least is alleged to be a very senior ranking intelligence officer, and the fact that  it’s also claimed that at least 7 of that team are extremely close in terns of the security  inner cirlce of the crown prince himself.

all of this is very strong circumstantial evidence. it all suggests that not only were these people implicated in whatever has happened. it also suggests that what the intention actually was.

– charles shoebridge

At 1:14 pm, surveillance cmaeras showed jamal  khashoggi entering the consulate. he gave Hatice his mobile phone and left her waiting for him outside.

At  4 :00 in  the afternoon , khashoggi had still not emerged. Hatice Cengiz contacted Yasin aktay and turan kislakci.

” at 3 :30 pm  i started  asking myself why jamal hadn’t come out. i got up and started walking around”

-Hatice

” i was checking the cars coming out of the consulate. and trying to understand what was happening.i never thought anything bad would happen.or that anything like that could happen.”

-Hatice

i felt something had gone wrong and started  thinking about  what  to do. i went to the endtrance and said i was waiting for jamal who hadn´t come out yet.

-Hatice

“the officer sid that there was no one inside. everyone had left.i asked myself what  i should do .i found the consulate’s phone number and called them. i said  i was jama’s fianceé and i was waiting  at the entrance. but thet he had gone insiden and not come out . the officer hung up the phone  and came to the door. he said ‘ there’s nobody inside, there’s no point  waiting ‘ my legs started trembing , and i thoguht about calling mr yasin .”

-Hatice

” she said she was jamal  khashoggi’s fianceé , so  i asked what had happened. she said  jamal had entered the  consualte five hours earlier, and still hadn’t come out .

that’s  when i knew there was as serious problem.i wasn’t aware of how dangerous it might be for khashoggi  to go into the consulate.”

-Yasin Aktay

”  told hatice to wait until i made som calls .i called the chief of general  intelligence hakan fidan. then  i called the president’s office. and i told  some of jama’s firends about what had happened.

after about three and a half hours of work on the part of the intelligence agency,it became clear  that jamal  khashoggi had disappeared.”

-Yasin Aktay

as international speculation about khashoggi’s fate  grew, one theory was that he had been kidnapped as part of an illegal operation to take him back to saudi arabia.

the British daily ,the Guardian expressed  concerned that khshoggi might have been detained, smuggled out of the saudi consulate  in istanbul in a diplomatic vehicle, and then transferred back to saudi arabia.

According to the information  we have , the saudi citixen is still in the saudi arabian consulate in istanbul.we don’t have any inormation besides that .”

-ibrahim kalin

That statement by the  Turkish presidental spokesman was made on october , 3, the  day after  khashoggi failed to emerge from the saudi consulate.

for days later, president  erdogan said  that  Turkish prosecutors were  conducting  an extensive investigation, looking into all camera records and monitoring incoming and outgoign airport transits.he  added that he still hoped for a positive outcome.

meawhile , the Turkish foregn ministry had summoned the saudi ambassador demanding clarification on October 4.

That resulted in the first official statement by the saudi consulate general in istanbul. on Twitter , it said that the consulate was “following up on media reports” about the disappearance of the saudi citizen and journalist jamal  khashoggi after he left the saudi  consulate in istanbul.

it also said it was coordinating with turkish authorities to : ‘ uncover the facts behind his going missing after exiting .”

in a wide-ranging interview with blomberg news agency just a day after  khashoggi’s disappearance, crown prince mohammed bin salman said :”  my understanding is he entered and got out after a few minutes , an hour .” the crown prince  also stated that khashoggi wasn’t inside the consulate. and he added”  if he were in saudi arabia , i wuld know that.”

” we kept  going to the consulate  for the first three days. we waited from morning till evening , because we thought jamal was inside. then saudi arabia released a statement saying that jamal had left a while after entering.this was during the first week. then i stopped going there, as i believed that jamal was no longer in the consulate.i thought they had taken him to saudi arabia or somewhere else.”

-Hatice

at the very beginning of the event that as happened,mr  erdogan  openly said that unless kingdom of saudi arabian  authoritites clearly show that he has left the consulate all the responsibilitites belong to the saudi arabian authorities.

and then you know  that saudi arabian  officials and their social media army started to propaganda about that  mr . khashoggi  has left the consulate.

and this is a very detailed plan and action of Turkish intelligence agency. they are trying to blame  saudi  arabia, and  the other such kind of ridiculous story , farbricated stories.

– Yusuf

the first report that khashoggi had been killed surfacef five days after  his disappearance.reuters news agency quoted a Turkish official, who said the initial assessment by Turkish polices was  that he had been murdered at the  consulate. and his body fown out of the country.

The saudi consulate issued a denial, saying that jamal khashoggi was neither inside the consulate nor inside saudi arabia.

it also deied that khashoddi  had been kille in the consulate and said every effort was being made to find him.

in october  6th ,the saudi consul in istanbul mohammed al – otaibi, invited reporters from Reuters  to the consulate and accomapnied them on tour to confirm that khashoggi  was  not inside the building. the consul denied reports of an assassination

he insisted khashoggi had left the building.but said he could not prove it

because the consulante’s surveillance cameras did not save images

then we understodd that something is going wrong  because if someone is missing in your consulate.

-Yusuf

you have to prove that he left the consulate with the video recordings.

-Yusuf

but why would you have a CCTV system that isn’t working or doesn’t redord? it seems  impossible to believe.

-charles shoebridge.

the only reason why  you would not have  a redording system is lack of money. and this is  isnt’t something that afflicts saudi arabia for sure.

– charles shoebridge

on mondey october the 8th, US president donald trump issued his first public statement on the case.

at the same time  the saudi ambassadorr to the US. prince khalid bin salman bin abdulaziz.stated publicly that allegations claiming khashoggi hadbeen killed or detained by the saudi  authorities were completely false and unfounded.he then left for saudi arabia on the pretex of seking clarification

“just spoke  with the king of saudi arabia, the king firmly denied any knwoledge of it. he didn’treally know . maybe.i don’t want to get into his mind, but it sounded to me like maybe this could have been rogue killers.who knows.”

-Trump

” from the first day, trump  administration wanted to give an exit for mohammed bin salman,of course we know the strong ties  between trump and mohammed bin salman and we know that trump started speaking about the rogue elements before  even the saudi gorernment came up twith this terminology.

so he wanted to give themnthe exit, therefore they can use it in order to cover up the crime. and this unfortunaltely was the role of trump administration.”

-wadah khanfar

“i received an invitation from president  trump a few weeks after the incident, he invited me to the united states  i didn’t see it as a positive gesture. i saw  it as a poitical  trick to get  public opinion on his side. the united states should have done something to find out what really  happened.”

-Hatice

on  October 8th  ,the turkish daily yeni safak  reported that the intelligence services were analyzing the movement of 26 cars ownd by the saudi consulate in instabul.

it said they wanted to determine their whereabouts  on the day jamal  khashoggi went  missing.

CCTV cameras close to the saudi consulate showed two cars, mercedes vito with the license number 34 CC 1865

and another mercedes with the license number 34 CC 33 48

driving to the saudi consul’s bouse an hour and 50 minutes after  khashoggi had entered the consulate. there were parked in the garage there for three days.

on the fourth day they were taken to a car wash near the consulate. these images  from inside the car wash, showing the two vehicles being carefully cleaned .

Turkish investigators believe that khashoggi’s dismembered body was transported from the consulate

to  consul’s house  in the mercedez vito
