October 21, 2017.
three year old KeJun mason was starving so he took a cupcake out of the kitchen ,and act so innocent it´s hard to imagine reacting to it in any way other thanjust smiling and letting him eat it .
yet the reaction that followed wasfar from what anyone could have expected.

lashirley morris, instead of a loving response, reacted with violance so severe ,that it would unleash a chilling series of events ,sending shock vawes throughout the entire community.

three old KeJuan mason woke up hungry
this was not the first time he would wake up in such a state.
the two-bedroom house ,probably should not describes as a home. a home is supposed to be warm and nurturing for a child . a home is supposed to be feel safe so a child has the freedom to be a child.

running around playing ,eating, sleeping and learning som children are lucky enough to live in such homes but of course there are other factors that determine that .unfortunately some children are not lucky enough to be born int oa home where love is given freely and hugs are plenty.

KeJuan was one of those children. the two- bedroom house KeJuan and his twin children were living in was their own version of hell.
they were not loved or cared for , there were no huggs when they were scared or upset and no one cared enough to kiss their boo boos way

besides love and care, KeJuan andhis twinbrother were not even given the basic things they needed as children.

other than a roof over their heads they had nothing else.
there was hardly any food to fill their little bellies .they weren´t allowed to play around the house, as is normal for most three year olds.

there were rules in that house.rules that restricted KeJuan frombeing

the little boy that he needed to be and if he broke those rules,as most three years old probably do ,he was met with yelling and a heartbreaking amount of physical violence.

KeJuan was just three but he already knew what real pain felt like.

and not just the ones from falling, because he was playing around and didn’t pay attention to his surroundings.

not the ones he got from being sick.

the kind of pain KeJuan felt on a regular basis was inflicted on him by the adults in the house.

the very adults he was entrusted to. this adults was supposed to take care of KeJuan feed him ,clothes him ,protect him ,keep him safe. and most importantly ,love him.
they did the opposite.they didn’t love him ,they hurt him and starved him.

KeJuan and his twin brother woul often have to go to the neighbor’s house to beg for food. those day would be the best day for KeJuan ,as he would be fed and taken care of by the kind neighbors
but before long, he would have to return to the house where he was ignored.

the house KeJuan lived in had at least seven other people hwo lived in it . it was a small cramped space that was left unclean cold and drab
there were more roaches in the house, then there were people. and the adults in the house didn´t care much for the children.

one of the adults was lashirley morris and her sister Glendria moris lashirley and her sister were tasked with taking care of KeJuan and his twin brother but they didn’t care. they did as they pleased with the children withour mercy

especially lashirley.she was known to have a short fuse. and would not hesitate to be violent.

and on particularly bad days, the children often cired themselves to sleep.
lashirley would sometimes punish the children for the tiniest of things.
by refusing to give them any food.

on that fateful day, KeJuan was hungry as usual , it is unclear if he was being punished for something lashirley and her sister felt he had done wrong,or they just felt like not feeding him.
he had not been fed all day, and no amount of crying was helping after a while KeJuan cried himself to sleep only to wake up even more hungry. than before.

KeJuan walked to the kitchen and found that no one was there
he opened the fridge , praying he would find something to eat

and luckiley for him ,he found a cupcake and ate it.
for most adults , a little boy of three eating a cupcake they had left in the
fridge,no matter how delicious the cupcake was.

would elicit a smile at bst and a mild annoyance at worst. that was not the case of KeJuan. you see when KeJuan was not treated like most kids in that situation,he was treated like an adult.

when lashirley walked in on KeJuan helping himself to a cupcake after being hungry all day, she felt anger boiling in her weins.

she had left that cupcake in the fridge to come back to eat later and she considered KeJuan a theif for eating the cupcake

lashirley lost her and would unleash a punishment so severe ,it would send chills down the spines of everyone who heard it

after lasirley and her sister glenndria were done unleashing their punishment on him KeJuan was barely breathing.

the sisters immediately called 911 to report the situation
on that call ,the dispatcher told them to start CPR on him . to get him breathing again, and hopefully keep him that way till help got to them .

but it was already too late.KeJuan´s tiny body could not withstand all the pain it had gone through that day

by time the paramedics got to him KeJuan mason was gone , he did not survive the morris sisters punishment.
the officers who were on the scene asked lashirley and glenndria if either of them was Lshirley’s mother but they said no. while the officers initially thougt the morris sisters were just babysitting KeJuan and his twin brother they would soon find out was not the case

Glenndria morris was not just watching KeJuan and his brother , she was their court apointed legal guardian ,given temporary custody of the twins after their mom was stripped of custody

there mom geraldine mason just lost thir home and with that , the custody of her children.
she did everything she could totry yo provide for her children, but no matter how hard she tried ,it seemed she was always running behind.
it was difficult for Geraldinde to earn enough to pay the rent month after month. and her children was not in the picture

she was a single mother to little children and little children needed more than love.they needed to be fed,and taken care of.
something geraldine always find to do due to her tgihht finances

A few weeks before Geraldine lost custody of her kids. she had been given an eviction notice to vacate their home because she was unable to afford the rent .
she had owed and owed and she was being evicted.
she reached out to family and friends begging them tocom through for her with one mont’s rent and she was going to pay them back once she got back on her feet.

but her economy was hitting everyone hard and Geraldine’s family didn’t have much to begin witth no matter how hard she tried she couldn’t get the rent.
with nowhere else to turn Geraldin and her kids were evicted from their home.

she tried crashing with afrew families and friends for some time , but non of that panned out in the long run .
there was just not enough space to accomendate both Geraldind and her kids.

After a while of rashing on sofas, DFCS, the division of children and family services caught up with Geraldine.
without a means of providing a home for the children,Geraldine was forced to relinquish custody of them
but she didn’t want them to go into foster car she heard enough horrific thins about what happened to kids when they went into the system

so she asked her friend ,Glenndria Morris, hwo had a home if she could take tempory custody for the twins, until she got back on her feet. Glenndria agreed.
the arrangements were made and the court gave Glenndria temporary custody of the twins.
Geraldine was very happy she had managed to saver her kids from the horrors from the fostercare system

little did she know the fate that awaited her kids would be eve worse
Glenndria and Geraldine came to agreement on when it would be okey to see the kids.
thats when things started to go wrong .

the first time Geraldine was supposed to come over to see the boys Glenndria postponed the meeting.
At first Geraldine did not notice anything wrong , she thought Glenndria was just busy and would reschuled when it was convenient to her but that time never came.

Geraldine reached out to Glenndria again ,asking to come see her babies .but Glenndria again refused ,saying she was still busy.

at this point ,Geraldine started to notice a fiew things were off. Glenndria would oftten ignore her calls, and when she picked up ,she would sound very irritated on the phone.

after some time postponing it,Glenndria finally came around to letting Geraldine see the boys
they agreed on a time and place and the boys were very happy to see their mom.
Geraldin was ecstatic too ,she had missed her kids.

but the meeting was not all sunshine and rainbows
Geraldine had noticed something a little off about her children.there were a few marks on their bodies that not been there before they went to stay in the morris house.
she also noticed her boys wwew little more reservd ,they weren´’t loud and boisterous like they had been before

she knew something was horribly wrong, she confronted Glenndria about it,but she denied it and took the boys away.
Geraldine tried to see them again ,but this time around ,she was not allowed to.

Glenndria point blank refused to let her see her children.

she became frustrated.she knew her babies were being hurt
and if she didn’t take them away from the morris household, something bad was going to happen. she could feel it in her bones.
Geraldine decided to try filing for custody of the boy’s back, but unfortunately ,as she was still homeless, the judge denied her custody.

three days later ,thre year old KeJuan Mason was met with the kind of pain even adults should not have to bear.

The investigation into the death of KeJuan Mason immediately began , and while the officers immediately thought his death was accidental they would soon find out the truth was much more sinister than that.

The officers on the scene began their investigation with an interrogation of everyone at the scene.

starting with Glenndria and Lashirley morris . the officers quickly realized this would not be an easy investigation. allthough Glenndria and Leshirley had the same story.
that story would take on a lot different shapes before arriving at the truth.

Glenndria and Lashirley told officers that KeJuan had choked on a cupcake and had trouble breathing before his breathing stopped.
Other than providing their account of what happened to little KeJuan , Glenndria and Leshirley were not cooperating with the officers on the case at all.

the officers found it hard to get any information regarding the little boy. and the sisters escpecially did not want to tell the officers who KeJuan’s really mother was and what her contact was so they could inform her child’s passing.
its unclear at this point why the sisters chose to withhold that information

but the officers were ultimately able to locate Geraldine. and give her the heartbreaking news ,Geraldine was devasted, her heart was broken and shattered into a million pieces .her little boy was gone. officers told her it had been an accident.

Geraldine was not buying it, she didn’t know why,but she could not shake the feeling that something even mores sinister happened to her baby. Geraldine told the officers she had a nagging suspicion this was no accident.

she told them the last time she saw both her kids, they had marks and bruises on them that didn’t look like ones they would get from just playing around and falling.

when the officers investigted further they discovered something a little strange. Glenndria and Lashirley were changing their story

The morris sisters told the officers KeJuan choked on the cupcake but they was able to remove thecupcake from his throat, after which he fell asleep.
Lashirley then informed officers that when they back to check on him , he was unresponsive and that’s when they called 911.

but the paramedics had a different story .
they told police that when they arrived at the scene,it appeared the three years old had not been breathing fora while.he was pronounced dead at Atlanta Medical Center.

once the story they told officers changed, officers began to question if the sisters were even t telling the truth or something darker happened to little KeJuan Mason.
three days after his passing, the officers wouldhave their answer.

An autopsy ws ordered on KeJuan immediately after he was pronounced dead at the hospital , and three days later , on October 24th ,2017.the medical examiner released the findings of the autopsy .

after KeJuan’s autopsy was released, what was initiallly an investigation into an accidental death, quickly became a homicide investigation .

the officers wnet back to the scenen of the crime to figure out what really happened to little KeJuan Mason on that fateful day.
they interviewed a few neighbors on the street who told them the real truth about how the morris sisters treated the mason boys.
officers learned they would leave the children without food and punish them using violent means.

the officers getting a clearer picture of the kind of of life little KeJuan and his brother had in that two bedroom house on Cleveland Avenue.
they decided to bring lashirley and Glenndria in for more questioning at the station.

at first , te sisters denied knwing how KeJuan came about his injuries, insisting that he hadchoked on a cupcake.
after hours of interrogation, the sisters broke and confessed the true story of what they did to KeJuan, the details of which were so shocking .

the community was still reeling from them years after

Lashirley used a baseball bat to hit the three year old boy multiple times in the head and while Glenndria used her hand to spank him on his bottom.basically the attack of the tow sisters left bruises all over the boys body.

the officers realized that although Glenndria had a role in taking the ife of the little boy ,it was ultimately Lashirley who dealt the final blow

both sisters were arrested and charged with the murder of little KeJuan

this case was one that hit at the heart of everyone in the community . it’s impact was felt all over the city of Atlanta, raising the questionwhen are kids truly safe?

Lashirley was the first to face the court to answer for what she had done. she ended up pleading guilty to the severalcharges brought against her.

the judge gave Lashirley a life sentence with the possibilty of parole.

Grandmother xavier Upshaw.

KeJuan’s family ,as well as the rest of the community ,were not pleased with the sentence they felt giving Lashirley the possibility of parole for such a horrific murder was a slap on the wrist

and did not do justice to the suffering the little boy went through at the hands of Lashirley, sufferings that she confessed to in detail to the officers and the court, while they were not satisfied with Lashirley ‘s sentence.
KeJuan’s family hoped the same thing would not happen with Glenndria they quickly discovered how wrong hey were.

thought the bond was denied for Lashirley before she was sentenced Glenndria’s bond was set at 200,000 dollars, and that’s not all, Glenndrias attorney petitioned thecourt to reduce Glenndria´s bond because she could not afford the amount , it was currently set at .

Grandmother xavier Upshaw.

KeJuan’s family was not having it his grandmother , xavier upshaw, showed up at court and told the judge she did not believe Glenndria’s bondshould be lowered at all, because Glenndria had shown no remorse for the murder of KeJuan over a cupcake throughout the porcess
Thankfully ,the judge on the case listened to Xavier Upshaw’s pleas and Glenndria´s bond remained at 200,000 dollars

which meant she never got to home before she was sentenced ,the case against Glenndria morris, who was charged for not stopping the fatal punishment is still pending.

the case has experienced several delays

the first delay came after Glenndria and Lashirley morris were charged in an attack that took place while they were at the Fulton County Jail.
the attack took place 9th ,2019 . a jail report does not say what led to the attack, but the victims had their own story to tell.
the victims alleged their attackers rushed into their cell and unleashed violence on them

and according to a seargent on duty ,the attack might not have been an ordinary attack.spurred by arguments within the walls of the county jail. and might have something to do with what wa going on outside the four walls of the jail.
A sergeant who saw the whole thing go down, remeber hearing comments made , as they rushed to separate the women.
and the comment sounded like the women who attacked the victims hadbeen acting on behalf of others on the outside.
which meant there was a possibility the attack was gang related.

more details .

The women are being held in the Fulton County Jail. Bond for both was set at $200,000. It’s unknown if either has an attorney.
