Matthew Ponomarenko was an Ohio man from Parma who was sentenced to life in prison for the brutal March 2021 murder of his 5 year old son ,Jax , before dying by suicide in prison December 2025.
Following the March 2021 killing of his son, Ponomarenko faced a psychiatric evaluation that deemed him competent to strand trial .
In November 2023 , he pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and related charges, receiving a life sentence, After later filing a motion in late 2025 to withdraw his plea citing mental illness, Ponomarenko died by suicide in December 2025 while incarcerated in Orient, Ohio.
