Woman charged in grisly murder attacks her lawyer

    Taylor Schabusiness, 25, attacked her attorney , during a court hearing, moments after a judge agreed to delay her trial.

    The Courtroom Attacks
    • First Attack (February 2023): During a competency hearing in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Schabusiness suddenly lunged at her then-attorney, Quinn Jolly. The outburst occurred right after the judge agreed to postpone her trial so a defense expert could review her mental health. A sheriff’s deputy had to tackle her to the courtroom floor. Following the attack, Jolly withdrew from the case.

    • Second Attack (April 2025): Schabusiness, then 27, attacked her legal counsel a second time during a court appearance for a separate charge involving the alleged assault of a correctional officer at the Taycheedah Correctional Institution. She stood up, screamed, and lunged at her lawyer before multiple guards intervened and wrestled her down.
    The Murder Case Background;
    The original charges against Schabusiness stemmed from the February 2022 death of 25-year-old Shad Thyrion. During a drug-fueled sexual encounter involving methamphetamine, Schabusiness strangled Thyrion to death before decapitating and dismembering his body.
    Verdict and Sentencing;
    During her trial in the summer of 2023, the jury rejected a defense plea arguing that she was not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. She was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, and third-degree sexual assault. In September 2023, she was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
