The man in his 30s, believed to be Somalian, has been taken into custody following the serious assault in the Kinnaird Avenue area of north Belfast on Monday night, 8th June, shortly after 10.30pm.
A man in his 40s is currently in hospital in a serious condition with significant injuries to his face, neck and back, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said.
Members of the public have been praised for stepping in and trying to stop the violence as horrifying footage apparently showing the attack circulates on social media.
