The Serial Killer Brothers Who Escaped Death Row

The Briley brothers – Linwood Earl, James Dyral and Anthony Ray – were three African-American siblings responsible for a seven-month killing spree that rocked Richmond, Virginia, in 1979. Even their fearful parents slept with a padlock on their bedroom door. Interests in exotic, dangerous pets (such as tarantulas, piranhas, and boa constrictors) and bullying others in school grew to become fearless and remorseless interests in murder for fun.

Shooting and killing a neighbor for target practice in 1971, the wily Linwood lead the way for his brothers to follow. Once caught and imprisoned, Linwood and James fashioned a tight team of fellow convicts to boldly and successfully break out of their state’s “inescapable” prison in 1984, much to the renewed horror of Richmond.
