On May 20, 2023, 17-year-old Sophie R. of Burlington, Connecticut, attended a party in Terryville with Cooper Ouellette, her on-again, off-again boyfriend.
According to Connecticut State Police, the couple argued during the evening, and witnesses reported that Ouellette struck or kicked Sophie and became angry when she tried to arrange another ride home.
Later that night, the two left the party in Ouellette’s pickup truck. Investigators allege that, during the drive, Sophie became separated from the vehicle and was run over. Police say Ouellette put her back in the truck and drove her to her home, where her family sought emergency medical help.
Sophie was pronounced dead at a hospital at 12:51 a.m. on May 21. An autopsy determined that she died from blunt-force trauma to her torso.
