A former caregiver sat down with detectives, answered questions about his old job and agreed to provide a DNA sample. The conversation included casual talk about boxing. Behind the visit was an investigation into how a woman with profound disabilities became pregnant while living at a residential care facility.
On April 16, 2024, Kane County investigators interviewed Isaiah Fields about his employment at Marklund Hyde Center near Geneva, Illinois. The resident’s pregnancy had been discovered earlier that month. Prosecutors later established that Fields assaulted her between August 1 and September 5, 2023, knowing she was unable to consent because of her disabilities.
Through redacted bodycam footage, official prosecutor announcements and published reporting, this video follows the interview, DNA collection and investigation that led to his arrest. Fields told detectives he had spent much of his employment in training and usually worked alongside another employee. Investigators collected DNA samples from current and former male employees. After testing linked Fields to the case, authorities obtained an arrest order and took him into custody on May 10, 2024.
Fields pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault on January 14, 2025. On March 14, Judge John Barsanti sentenced him to 25 years in prison, with at least 85% to be served and lifetime sex-offender registration. He also received a consecutive one-year sentence after pleading guilty to criminal sexual abuse involving another victim in a separate case, bringing the combined prison terms to 26 years.
